Teddy Bear Brown Pelt
Here at Shepherds Lane we not only produce premium fibers but also premium pelts and lambskins. As some of our sheep enter the food chain, we are mindful of each one and the part they play in the circle of life on a farm. It is in this spirit of respect that we preserve the essence of their being by harvesting these beautiful pelts and lambskins to be used and treasured for years to come. Each one is unique, no two are alike in character and color.
This pelt is off one of our crossbred lambs and is quite unique! We don’t typically raise sheep that display brown tones but this one sure did! However, if you part the locks and take a closer look the fiber is a very dark…almost black tone . It is a bit smaller skin than most of my others, measuring about 36 inches long and 24 inches wide. Very well shaped and no glaring blemishes in the hide…there are a few small punctures made by the tanner but they aren’t going to have an effect on the appearance or usefulness of this lambskin. The staple length is about three to four inches. It not overly soft fiber and is a “down” type medium wool. Might be best as a rug or an accent piece.
These are tanned in the USA to be washable however I don’t recommend that they be laundered in a washer as it is difficult to get them as soft and pliable again as they are now. They can be spot cleaned, dry cleaned, or cleaned by a furrier. From time to time I air mine outside and occasionally hang them up and mist the wool. Then air dry them out of the direct sunshine so they dry slowly and don’t stiffen. Also can be put in the dryer for a quick fluff. They really are easy to care for, are incredibly resilient, and will last for years if given a bit of care and respect.
The gift giving season will be upon us shortly and this is a great way to say you care to that special person in your life. If you have any questions or need help finding that special lambskin, get in touch with me please. I have quite a collection in the Studio and may have just what you have been dreaming of finding!
