Valais Blacknose Lamb #1319 Fleece
This fiber is from one of our Shepherds Lane 75% Valais Blacknose, 25% Scottish Blackface ewe lambs. As you know, this breed is currently being established in the USA by a process we call “upgrading”, which is why I use percentages in my descriptions to represent the fiber as accurately as possible for you.
Before I shear the lambs they get a nice rinse and air dry in the sun…this makes for a clean, fresh fleece to shear and offer to spinners. I have taken every effort to skirt and remove any vm or short bits so you are getting the very best of the best this little lamb could offer! Weighs 2 pounds. Staple length is on average about four to five inches and up. Many of the locks are intact enough to use for felt projects or art yarns. This fleece does show the Scottish Blackface genetics and is not as soft as my other crosses but has a great character and surprising luster. There is also some black and colored fiber in this fleece.
Give Valais a try and let me know what you think of this unique fiber!
