Emma's #3 Teeswater Pelt
Here at Shepherds Lane we not only produce premium fibers but also premium pelts and lambskins. As some of our sheep enter the food chain, we are mindful of each one and the part they play in the circle of life on a farm. It is in this spirit of respect that we preserve the essence of their being by harvesting these beautiful pelts and lambskins to be used and treasured for years to come. Each one is unique, no two are alike in character and color.
This is a large pelt, measuring about 44 to 45 inches long and super wide. Very well shaped and just a couple tiny little blemishes in the hide. The fiber is so wonderful as this was a Teeswater and there are just curls, curls, curls, everywhere on this showpiece. The fiber staple length is about four inches long and the fiber itself lays in fairly distinct spirals. It is a rich and strikingly beautiful piece. This would be a show piece to have on the back of a couch or in a favorite chair. It could also be fashioned into couture-style wearables.
These are tanned in the USA to be washable however I don’t recommend that they be laundered in a washer as it is difficult to get them as soft and pliable again as they are now. They can be spot cleaned, dry cleaned, or cleaned by a furrier. From time to time I air mine outside and occasionally hang them up and mist the wool. Then air dry them out of the direct sunshine so they dry slowly and don’t stiffen. Also can be put in the dryer for a quick fluff. They really are easy to care for, are incredibly resilient, and will last for years if given a bit of care and respect.
The gift giving season will be upon us shortly and this is a great way to say you care to that special person in your life. If you have any questions or need help finding that special lambskin, get in touch with me please. I have quite a collection in the Studio and may have just what you have been dreaming of finding!
