Teeswater Adult 3lb. 8oz. Rinsed Fleece
. This breed is listed on the watch list of the Rare Breeds Trust in the UK, the country of its origin, and has recently been added as a rare breed on the Livestock Conservancy here in the USA. (Our flock is in the “Shave Em to Save Em” program…just let me know if you are participating and I will include your SE2SE label.) The Teeswaters have been established here by using semen and an upgrading program which we have helped to establish and continue to support with genetics and high quality breeding stock. Our flock numbers around 50 to 75 head so fleeces are always in stock as they are usually shorn twice a year.
This fleece is off one of our adult ewes and has a bold, chunky lock structure. The ewe was rinsed before shearing so there isn’t much grease or vm in this fiber. Length is good at roughly six inches. Total weight is 3 pounds and 8 ounces.
This fleece is best suited for felting or weaving as it has some cross-fibering that will make carding the locks out VERY challenging…best to respect what they are are and use them to your best advantage! Much of the fleece is still in sections with the locks intact so felting or weaving options abound. It will need a final wash.
